The FreeCom Group has established a credible computer industry
based on factory refurbished or brand new fully guaranteed
personal computers and the appropriate use of smart software.

This forms part of our wider vision: making relevant information,
communication and ICT technology more affordable and accessible
to all South Africans.
In striving
to achieve this the FreeCom Group has had a beneficial impact
on the South African IT market in terms of:
- Stimulating
economic development
- Facilitating
community building
- Creating
entrepreneurial opportunities for the youth
The commercial
side of our business targets first time buyers - home users
who may think that a PC is beyond their financial reach. FreeCom
believes that is has an alternative affordable solution. This
is possible since the cost of a FreeCom refurbished personal
computer, including a 6 month carry-in warranty, is roughly
50% less than an equivalent new PC.
We offer
similar credible and affordable solutions to businesses, provincial
and government departments, NGOs, schools, and community centres.
Beyond
this, the FreeCom Group aims to help introduce IT access to
a wider audience. We envision a multitude of community technology
centres, in schools and existing community centres, where
people can receive training in computer literacy.
From this
perspective, FreeCom is far more than just a hardware equipment
supplier. By providing opportunities for human development
and community building such centres can become viable community
investments that help to uplift the local people.
Due to
the important role these centres can play, we believe in careful
planning even before the hardware is delivered.
To ensure
that the centre can sustain itself, this planning phase must
address:
hard issues
(including secure computer rooms, adequate security, and internet
connectivity)
soft issues (including teacher training, after sales and technical
support). |
